We are pleased to invite you to participate in the International conference “War, Academy, and Emotions: From Interviews to Memory-Making”, which will take place on 21–22 February 2025, in a hybrid format.
This conference is part of the “War, Academy, and Emotions” series, initiated by the Chernihiv Research Center for the Anthropology of War in February 2023.

Conference themes:
Theoretical and Methodological Block:
- Oral history and memory formation
- Methodology of fieldwork in the wartime: from recording to interpretation
- Autoethnography as a method of accumulating oral historical evidence
- The role of the researcher/documenter in interviewing and producing scientific knowledge
- From interviewing to archiving
Practical Block:
- Forming a corpus of oral historical sources about the Russian-Ukrainian war: the experience of repeated interviewing
- Anthropological studies in the wartime
- Code of ethics for oral history researchers working with different groups (civilians, military, children, people with disabilities, doctors, scholars, refugees, prisoners of war, etc.)
- Humanitarian aspects of the Russian-Ukrainian war: military everyday life and survival strategies
