Join Us for the Presentation of a New Book

On February 4 at 5:00 PM (Kyiv time), Ihor Lyman, a member of the Ukrainian Oral History Association’s working group, and Viktoriia Konstantinova, the Director of the Research Institute of Urban History, will present the newly published book:

Viktoriia Konstantinova, Ihor Lyman, Vadym Sysiuk. The Sysiuks: History of a Great Family. Kharkiv, 2024. 500 pp., ill.

This book is the result of an extensive study of the Sysiuk family, whose history encapsulates significant events of Ukrainian history. Their biographies reflect the Cossack heritage of the Hetmanate, the colonization of Southern Ukraine in the 19th century, the First World War, the liberation struggles of 1917–1921 (including the Makhnovist movement), the NEP period, industrialization, collectivization, the Holodomors, Stalinist repressions, World War II, the Sovietization of Western Ukraine, post-war reconstruction, the Khrushchev and Brezhnev eras, perestroika, and the formation of independent Ukraine, including tragic events in Donbas region since 2014.

During the research process, information on 3,133 members of the Sysiuk family was uncovered. The authors compiled a database containing 2,022 documents and recorded 6,366 key events, such as births, weddings, and deaths.
